Fifth Grade
Mrs. Pitts is our 5th Grade teacher.
2011-12 will be my tenth year teaching fifth grade at the Beach School and I’m thrilled to be here, where 5th Grade Rocks!! I moved to Gulf Breeze in 2000 after teaching in Greenwich, Connecticut for 10 years. I’ve worked with children from 3rd through 6th grade and also spent a year as a Fulbright Exchange Teacher in Fife, Scotland.
I graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1986 with a degree in Sport Marketing/Management. In 1991 I received my Master of Arts in Teaching in Elementary Education from Manhattanville College, in Purchase New York.
My husband Dave is a Supervisor with the US Postal Service. He and I have four furry children. They’re all Rescues. I do believe that time spent with animals is added to your life!
Our fifth grade motto is “Fifth Grade has M.O.R.E.” The M is for manners, the O is for organization, the R is for respect and the E is for effort. I feel that it’s my “charge” to provide Pensacola Beach Elementary School with student leaders and role models for our younger grades. We have many 5th grade responsibilities like reading the morning announcements every day, raising and lowering the flag, gathering recyclables from all the classrooms and putting messages on the school marquee.
5th grade combines the joy of elementary school along with preparation for the rigors of middle school. Some of our 5th Grade Highlights are DARE with Officer Nguyen from the Gulf Breeze Police Department, Field Trips to the Naval Air Museum, and our end of the year celebration trip to New Orleans where we tour the World War II Museum and the Aquarium of the Americas… along with a stop at Café du Monde for beignets!
The 2011 fifth grader FCAT scores were 100% passing in math and reading, and 88% passing in science. These were among the top scores for Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties, and in the state.
Come visit 5th Grade on the Beach. We work hard and play hard, and we have an awesome view too!
